What Does Hold Mean on Thermostat?

Technology has improved and with technology, thermostats have developed into a form that is only making human life easier. As programmable and smart thermostats have entered the market, people have started to become relaxed in regard to their automated temperature control systems.

The reason behind this relaxation can be attributed to the modern capabilities of thermostats. Regardless of what the thermostat is capable i.e., different options or one single option thermostats are enabling humans to live a better life through technology.

No matter what the technology allows us to do, human life can still be rather unpredictable, and at times users may find themselves hurrying to change the temperature setting of their thermostats.

This is where the ‘hold’ option comes in handy. The ‘hold’ button gives the users the option to set an alternate temperature. The ‘hold’ option then continues to work on that alternate temperature until the user wants to revert back to the regular settings.

‘HOLD’ OPTION ON A THERMOSTAT

In simpler words, the hold button basically is an emergency switch button that is designed to tune the thermostat for a different temperature until the settings are reverted back to the original temperature.

Modern thermostats have been developed to such an extent, that people who were surprised to know about the hold option would be even more surprised when they learn that hold option itself has two different settings namely ‘permanent hold’ and ‘hold until’.

The difference between permanent and hold until is that the first one has opted when users want to switch to the ‘hold’ setting for an indefinite period of time while the latter i.e., the ‘hold until’ option is designed to hold the alternate setting for a predetermined time period.

TURNING OFF THE ‘HOLD’ OPTION

Turning off the ‘hold’ option is rather simple; the users can press ‘cancel’ and it will automatically cancel the selected setting. While the ‘Run’ or ‘Run Schedule’ options will make the thermostat switch back to its original settings and run accordingly.

By pressing ‘cancel’ the temporary settings are removed. By pressing ‘Hold’ the temperature is permanently set, the hold function also allows the user to set the temperature manually.
