My Vape Pen Cartridge Broke. Now What?

Accidents happen, that’s just how it is, especially if you’re high. Sometimes, you’re lucky and nothing happens, and sometimes you’re unlucky and your vape pen cartridge breaks. Don’t worry, it isn’t the end of the world, you can still salvage it. There are lots of different ways to rescue your broken cartridge, and you’ll learn about all of them here. So, if the unthinkable should happen, you’ll be well prepared.

Anatomy of a Vape Pen Cartridge

The cartridge of an oil pen is essentially just a glass tube attached to a battery, so it’s not too surprising that they end up breaking occasionally. That’s too bad since oil vaporizers are one of the best ways to get into vaping CBD or THC extracts.

The cartridges discussed in this article are the refillable type but if you want less effort—and less risk—then you can try pre-filled cartridges. Some of them are 510 threaded and can be used with any compatible battery. Other pre-filled cartridges are proprietary and can only be used with specific batteries. Either option is worth trying out if your vape pen cartridge keeps breaking.

Protect Your Cartridge

The best thing to do is to prevent the cartridge from breaking in the first place. There are a few different steps you can take to prevent breakages from happening. Many vape pens include nifty carrying cases to store your pen when you’re not using it. In some cases, you can just store the pen in the original packaging.

If none of those solutions do it for you, then you can buy a vape pen protector. These are flexible foam tubes that you wrap around your vape pen to keep it snug and secure. They’re pretty inexpensive, they work great, and they look cool. So, try one out if you’re worried about the security and integrity of your vape pen.

Make a Topical

Once your cartridge is broken, it’s all about salvaging the oil that’s left behind. One way of doing this is by using it to make a topical, or salve. There are simple formulas that use easy to attain ingredients that you can use to make your own THC or CBD topicals.

The main benefit to these topicals is targeted pain relief. Just rub the salve on the area that hurts and the cannabinoids will be absorbed into the affected area. This treatment won’t show up on a drug test, so they are a good way to experience the benefits of THC oil without the risk of getting busted.

Get Creative in the Kitchen

Another way to solve the conundrum of a broken cartridge is to just eat it. Not the cartridge obviously, and not the oil, at least not directly. I mean use it in a recipe; I’m sure you know all about THC infused edibles, well, you can use the leftover oil to make your own.

They’re pretty easy to make and the ingredients are easy to find. Even if you’re not a natural in the kitchen, you can make some delicious munchies by closely following the instructions for the recipes. Even better, you might find out you’re a natural at this cooking thing and become a world-renowned chef. Or not. But at least you’ll get some use out of that leftover oil.

Use Concentrate on a Bowl or Joint

If you’ve got some weed in its more traditional herb form, then you can use the leftover oil for some twaxing. Twaxing? Yep, that’s when you drizzle the oil over your grass before you roll it up into a joint or smoke it from a bowl.

Careful though! The hits are a lot more intense than using the oil or weed by itself. Even if you consider yourself an expert stoner, you might be surprised by how hard a twaxed joint hits. So make sure you’re near your fainting couch when you’re ready to take that double dose of THC.

Don’t Let That Oil Go to Waste

As you can see, a broken vape pen cartridge isn’t the end of the world. You can salvage the leftover oil in lots of different ways so that not a single drop of it goes to waste. Of course, it’s better if your cartridge never breaks in the first place, so be more careful and follow some of the advice I gave you earlier. So, take care of your cartridge, take care of yourself, and let’s all take care of each other.
