A social network is one of the greatest innovations that have been made available to mankind. The most basic concept for these websites is to connect people, through the internet, no matter where they are in the planet. People can communicate with their loved ones overseas without having to worry about the costs. Only people need is an Internet connection and a computer or a smartphone.
Facebook, one of the social network websites, is one of the most popular among its peers. It already has millions of registered users, and still counting up to this date. It is recorded that almost 4 million users still have accounts even though they are already deceased. Others even have multiple accounts for their own personal reasons.
Sometimes, logging on to Facebook can either be fun or just the opposite. It all depends on how the user uses their Facebook account. There are ways, of course, in order for a person to enjoy their time on Facebook. There are a few points to take note of that users must consider when they log in to their account.
- Never add strangers
Adding up people is the main point in social networks. You can’t connect and communicate with them without adding them in the user’s friends list. But in adding friends on Facebook, take note that this is not a competition. Users would not get a reward for having the most friends in the whole network. It is important for users to add people who they actually and personally know.
- Choose the people you wish to see in the newsfeed
No matter how many friends a user has, they have control over who they wish to see in their newsfeed. This is an important option that Facebook implemented. This way, if a user is interested in reading what people’s thoughts are, they would not get a clutter of posts from numerous friends. They can simply choose from whose posts they can see and comment on.
- Don’t like all the posts that are in the newsfeed
Reading posts are fun because sometimes people share something funny or touching. Sometimes, some posts are annoying. Liking all of these has its own consequence. Liking a post about a hardship or troubles of a person might lead them to think that you like what’s happening to them. Liking too many posts would simply fill up your notification bar when other people comment or like the same post. This will allow the users to see in their notification bar what they actually need to be notified of.
- Never post scandalous or inappropriate pictures
Normally, the people in a user’s friends list are their friends, family and officemates. Posting inappropriate or scandalous pictures means that they can see it too. This can lead to a user’s humiliation.
Users who are getting a job interview should take high note of this. Business owners tend to use Facebook as basic background check. If they see that the person has these kinds of pictures then it might severely decrease their chances of getting hired. These kinds of photos can also be taken and used by others without permission, so it is best to stay safe than sorry.
- When logging in on another computer, never save password and always log out
Facebook hackers are not really hackers, even if they think they are. These are just people making fun of another person’s account when they accidentally or purposely leave their Facebook unattended. These people write ridiculous posts about the person which is not true, or even mess up the wall of the user by changing their profile pictures or even deletion of their friends.
The best way to avoid this is to properly log out a Facebook account when the user is already finished. This should be done even in their own homes, because other people might be allowed to use their computer and see their Facebook account open. It might tempt them to “hack” the user’s account.
